There is an epidemic of violence against women and girls. Some 3,000 offences are recorded every day. One in 12 women experience violence every year. Over one million violence against women related crimes were recorded between 2022-23. They accounted for 20 percent of all police recorded crime in England and Wales.

Will social workers in schools stop young people committing violent crimes?

The Victorian government has announced it will send social workers to 20 of the state’s schools to try to reduce violent youth crime. It will spend A$5.6 million on “targeted” schools next year. The aim is to “intervene early in the lives of children who are heading down the wrong path […] drifting towards violence, crime and anti-social behavior.”

In my experience, regardless of race, education or socioeconomic status, there are some universal challenges that all people face with aging and there are steps everyone can take to prepare.

Social Harm and Neoliberalism: The Problem of Ignorance

Illustrated through case studies, John Gregson shows that social harms are a problem created not only by politics or economics, states or corporations, but also by the individualism that neoliberal societies encourage. He argues that key factors that deepen the problem of social harm include the neoliberal production of ignorance and subjectivity, along with liberal modernity itself.
