The present study used a multiple probe design to examine the effects of a behavioral skills training procedure on extended social interactions including starting a conversation, telling a joke, engaging in conversation to get to know someone better, and talking about what the participant and a partner were doing. Administered sequentially across interaction types, a behavioral skills training intervention consisting of instructions, video modeling, feedback, and rehearsal produced steady acquisition, mastery, and maintenance of all four social interaction types for a 14-year-old male diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
