The Faculty of Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) and the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) recommend that post-birth contraception is offered to everyone giving birth before they leave maternity services.
As not everyone sees an obstetrician during their maternity care, all midwives need knowledge of contraception after birth and confidence in delivering counselling and contraception.
