Abstract
While digital technologies have been used in the medical field for decades, telemedicine rapidly expanded with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, including into the realm of forensic telemental health evaluations. Much of this expansion was a reactive approach to the growing need for the ability to provide services in a socially distant manner. As the restrictions from COVID-19 have waned, the necessity of developing a formal curriculum for forensic telemental health evaluations has become apparent. The following article outlines a proposed curriculum for competencies in forensic telemental health evaluations. This curriculum is developed by expanding on the domains outlined by the Association for American Medical College in general telehealth competencies and outlining specific teleforensic considerations within each domain. Highlights include ensuring appropriateness for video evaluations, familiarity with differences in technology, communications and environmental safety strategies, and documentation differences.
