Increasing awareness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (HIV-PrEP) is an important HIV prevention strategy.1 In Brighton, HIV-PrEP is provided by a single provider from two sites: the sexual health clinic and a community setting.2 As part of our yearly evaluation project, we explored HIV-PrEP awareness among patients accessing our service. We sent an SMS link to an anonymous online survey to patients after their sexual health appointment in July/August 2022 including asking if respondents know about HIV-PrEP.
Overall, 289/1927 (15%) responded including 157 (54%) cis-men, 116 (40%) cis-women and 15 (5%) trans/non-binary identifying people. One hundred and seventy-nine (62%, 95% CI 56.1 to 67.6) respondents stated they were aware of HIV-PrEP. There were differences in awareness by gender, age, sexuality and ethnicity (table 1).
