This article presents reflections by Feigenbaum on David Riesman. David Riesman was Feigenbaum’s research assistant at the University of Chicago from 1956-1958. This article offers the context that led to the writing of “The Search for Challenge,” which is perceived as a leitmotif in the life of Riesman and is seen as a motivator for his writing of this article. Riesman’s wide-ranging intellectual perspective is presented in the article.
