Encanto is Disney’s latest animated film about a Colombian family blessed with a miracle following painful events of conflict and death. The miracle provides gifts (perfection, strength, and weather control) to each member of the family, except for one, whose gift only reveals itself as the film progresses. This article examines Encanto as an introductory exploration into the experience of intergenerational trauma within one family including defining, experiencing, and healing intergenerational trauma.
