Abstract
Couples with comorbid or co-occurring sexual dysfunctions are likely to experience mental, emotional and relationship issues that negatively impact the couple relationship and each individual partner. Yet, for many couples with co-occurring sexual dysfunctions, the treatment utilized is often focused on the individual and is medical in nature, with relational factors often excluded from treatment. The Intersystem Approach to sex therapy is one method that aims to systemically treat sexual dysfunction as it appears in a couple’s relationship. This article explores the Intersystem Approach to sex therapy as a method to treat co-occurring sexual dysfunctions in couples. A case study is presented to demonstrate this systemic approach in context.
