Abstract
In the May 6th Issue of the Australia and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Malhi et al. published a Reflection
1 asserting that the use of the term paediatric bipolar disorder (PBD) should be abandoned. Referencing unreplicated studies and dated citations, the authors incorrectly infer from administrative database studies that rates of bipolar disorder diagnoses are rising among youth, critically missing that the number of visits with a bipolar diagnosis increased markedly, not necessarily the number of children with the diagnosis.
