Mary Priestley died peacefully on June 11, 2017, in London at 92 years of age. Mary was the founder of the psychoanalytically oriented form for music therapy known as Analytical Music Therapy (AMT) (Priestley, 1975), which was one of the five major music therapy models recognized as such at the World Congress of Music Therapy in 1999. Before training as a music therapist, Mary worked as a writer, artist, illustrator, and author.
