Considering the revisions of reinforcement sensitivity theory: Commentary on McNaughton (2025).

Motivation Science, Vol 11(1), Mar 2025, 18-19; doi:10.1037/mot0000378

Comments on the article by N. McNaughton (see record 2025-13434-001), which provides an overview of two related theories referred to the neuropsychology of anxiety (NPA) and reinforcement sensitivity theory (RST). These revisions have been inspired by research that highlighted how these theories could be improved to better capture the complex motivational dynamics underlying much of animal (humans included) life.
