Summary: Evaluation of a programme to prevent non-accidental head injuries in babies, piloted in hospitals and birthing units. Over 30,000 parents were shown a film aimed at helping them care for a crying baby and reducing the risk that they will become stressed and harm their baby. Focuses on findings from a telephone survey of over 1,500 parents. Key findings from the evaluation include: 99% of parents remembered the film at least six months after they had viewed it; 82% of parents reported having used advice from the film; and the rate of reported injuries among babies with feeding, sleeping or crying difficulties was lower if parents had seen the film.
