This practice guidance is for social workers registered with the Care Council.
The guidance, which builds on the Code of Practice for Social Care Workers, aims to:
Describe what is expected of social workers;
Provide a practical tool, aiding social workers in their practice;
Provide guidance which supports social workers to deliver a high quality,
citizen-centred1
social work service;
Provide the basis for the development of more detailed practice guidance to support
best practice.
The guidance also contains links to other information intended to support social workers
in their practice.
The guidance has been developed with reference to the National Occupational
Standards (NOS) for Social Workers published in 2011.
