Motor vehicle collisions resulting in the death of
teenage occupants is a major preventable cause of
death among children in Wales. The CDR Programme
Annual Report (Public Health Wales 2013b) highlights
375 deaths of external cause among children and young
people (age 0-17) registered between 2002 and 2011.
Thirty per cent of these (113) were due to road traffi c
accidents among those (ages 12-17); 56% (63) of which
occur as vehicle occupants.
