This is a crucial time in the history of the health service. A new system has been brought in, intending to encourage more choice for patients, more involvement of patient and the public in health services, more competition on the basis of quality and a further developed focus on commissioning services based on the needs of local areas.1 General Practitioner (GP) led Clinical Commissioning Groups have taken over the commissioning of the
majority of health services. As part of these changes there will also be a new, single commissioner of the primary care that GPs provide – NHS England.
