Promoting positive education and care transitions for childreN

The transitions from home to early childhood education and care and then to school are major milestones in the lives of children. However, these transitions can be challenging for children and also for parents: especially for disadvantaged families. This resource sheet reviews research on these transitions, focusing on how children and parents experience transitions, and the child, parent, and community factors that influence adaption. The sheet also describes two programs that show promising practices in improving transitions and school readiness.
