Movember partnership to help young men to have healthy and respectful relationships

6 September 2024Australian Government Department of Social Services. Movember Institute of Men's Health. Healthy Masculinities

The Department of Social Services is partnering with the Movember Institute of Men’s Health (Movember) in a commitment to advance healthy masculinities to end gender-based violence.

Under this partnership, Movember have committed $3.2 million to improve men’s understanding of masculinity and to support the development of healthier, more fulfilling relationships. This builds on the $3.5 million provided by the Government to support the Healthy Masculinities Trial and Evaluation (Healthy MaTE) initiative which promotes and encourages healthy relationships among school-aged boys.

The work to be undertaken by Movember includes research on how online platforms, including media environments, influence the mental health of young men. By building a community of practice across Australia, this partnership aims to develop evidence-based strategies that will inform healthy masculinity initiatives.

This innovative partnership supports a key priority area identified in the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032; by encouraging and supporting men to become more involved in fostering respectful behaviours and creating safer communities.

We all play an important role in ending gender-based violence and collectively we can work towards a safer and more equal Australia.
