This resource sheet applies the public health model to the Australian child welfare and child protection system to explore how the system responds to child abuse and neglect. The resource sheet describes the public health model, primary (or universal) interventions, secondary (or targeted) interventions, tertiary interventions, types of child maltreatment prevention programs, and the limitations of the public health model.
