Guidance: UK resettlement programmes: funding instruction 2017 to 2018

Updated: Updated the note to include a link to the new 2019-2020 document.

The latest version of this guidance is available: UK resettlement programmes: funding instruction 2019 to 2020

The Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) was originally launched in January 2014. The scheme was intended to provide sanctuary to several hundred vulnerable Syrians over 3 years.

In view of the worsening situation in Syria, the then prime minster announced an extension of the scheme on 7 September 2015, with the intention of resettling 20,000 refugees from the conflict by 2020.

The Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Scheme (VCRS) was announced on 21 April 2016 and has as its aim the resettlement of 3,000 vulnerable and refugee children and their families from the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region.

The programme’s primary purpose is to resettle refugees in a way that:

  • secures national security and public protection
  • has the wellbeing of the vulnerable persons and the welcoming communities at the centre of decision making
  • delivers value for money for the UK tax payer

The government is making funding available to allow local authorities, healthcare providers and 3rd party sponsors to support refugees for the duration of the programme (currently up to 5 years).

The funding instructions set out the conditions under which the funding is disbursed, the outcomes required and the processes to be followed to claim funds. They also provide more detailed definitions of eligibility.

You should complete the medical costs workbook if you are a healthcare provider who is claiming funding under either the Vulnerable Persons’ Resettlement Scheme or the Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Scheme.
