Officials say 90 percent of Beira has been destroyed, a port city of half a million people.
The storm made landfall on Thursday, but aid teams only reached the city on Sunday.
Caritas Mozambique is importing 1,500 canvases that will go to Beira as soon as possible.
There are two teams leaving Maputo tomorrow and Wednesday in support.
Antonio Anosso, humanitarian officer for Caritas Mozambique says, “We still facing some challenges in getting informations from Beira because there is no communication. There is lack of food, water and shelter.
“Our priority for staff in the disaster zone is rescuing people, accomodation, registering the affected group. But they do not have resources to respond to food, water and shelter needs.
“Urgent needs are food, iron sheets, water and sanitation, shelter and seeds.”
