During the latest Conference of the Italian Society of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (16–19 December 2025), an audience poll was conducted to evaluate M. gen screening practices and the availability of resistance testing in routine care. The session was attended by 117 infectious disease (ID) specialists, with good representation from the 125 Italian ID centres. STI care generally involves also dermatovenereology clinics, which, due to fragmented organisation across the country, were not captured in our survey. However, given the current expansion of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)-driven activities in ID clinics only, STI management is now predominantly delivered by ID physicians.
