The purpose of this study was to create and validate the Proclimate Behavioral Intentions Scale (PCBIS), a new instrument for measuring private-sphere proclimate behavioral intentions. Currently, there is a need for a valid measure of proenvironmental behavioral intentions, or more specifically, proclimate intentions. This study fills this gap by developing a scale that is both valid and reliable. The analyses were based on a large group, consisting of 1,916 participants in three studies. The 10-item PCBIS showed strong discriminant, predictive, and nomological validity. Structural equation modeling was used to confirm the nomological validity of the PCBIS in relation to the theory of planned behavior. Thus, the PCBIS is a valid and reliable measure of proclimate behavioral intentions for adult populations. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2026 APA, all rights reserved)
