Social work has long been at the forefront of addressing the social determinants of health (SDOH), guided by principles like holistic care, systems thinking, and the person-in-environment framework. These approaches have enabled social workers to address critical issues like housing instability, food insecurity, and access to education while advocating for justice and equity. However, as the field has evolved, it has become clear that existing frameworks, while essential, fall short of fully addressing the systemic forces perpetuating health disparities.
