Does Governance Matter in Educational Outcomes? A Panel Data Analysis of BRICS Nations

This study examines the impact of the quality of state governance on selective educational outcomes in BRICS countries from 2011 to 2022. It employed the Worldwide Governance Indicators to assess the six dimensions of governance. The Gross enrolment ratio in tertiary education, Government expenditure on Education, Employability, and Global Competitiveness have been selected as the educational outcomes to proxy the quality of education systems in BRICS. The random effect model revealed a significant relationship between governance indicators and educational outcomes, Regulatory Quality and Government Effectiveness emerged as the most important variables. The findings have significant implications for the policymakers of BRICS.
