Social work should value Indigenous wisdom more profoundly. Currently, the practice marginalizes the knowledge bases of Native American cultures (Tamburro, 2013). Their fundamental worldviews contain principal values and ethics that are the source of understanding self, community, world, and cosmos (Grim, 2006). Social work practice and research can be strengthened by teaching Native American fundamental worldviews (Tamburro, 2013), especially their values toward the world, which is usually delineated as sacred. Learning about Native American fundamental worldviews inspires harmonious practice with Native Americans who deal with ongoing inequities growing from genocide, lifeway loss, and multigenerational trauma.
