Despite guidelines on mixed methods writing practices, the process of turning a mixed methods dissertation into a peer-reviewed publication is unknown, which may hinder scientific advancements and the use of mixed methods research across disciplines. This qualitative study explored recent doctorates’ experiences across three dimensions (i.e., critical decisions about the process, challenges, and recommendations for scholars) through nine semi-structured interviews. We identified themes under each dimension, respectively: (a) considerations for authorship decisions, disentangling the publication process, and the role of support systems; (b) challenges preparing a manuscript for submission and challenges with the journal review process; and (c) the value of time for publication process. This study contributes to the field of mixed methods research by offering empirical evidence and insights.
