This study explores the complex journey of a young lesbian navigating her sexual identity in the challenging environment of a residential treatment center due to her mother’s substance use. Through qualitative methods, this research delves into the intertwining of family dynamics, societal pressures, and minority stress in shaping self-acceptance. The study highlights the critical role of supportive relationships and affirming interventions in fostering resilience and mental well-being among LGBTQ+ individuals. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how personal and environmental factors coalesce to impact the identity development of LGBTQ+ youth in specialized care settings.
