The growing role of mental health apps in time of the pandemic

The recent article emphasized the consequence of utilizing virtual online platform in the well-being among students.1 In effect, it caused tremendous harm in mental health. The isolation mandated by governments to control the spread of the virus, significantly increased people who reported to have symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder.2 As such, health app downloads including mental health increased by a quarter during the pandemic.3 Download of these apps has been aided not just by more screen time, but with the already ubiquitous use of smartphones, with over 3.6 billion users in 2020.4
