Since its founding in 1947, AAPOR has, alongside quantitative social science and survey research, enjoyed considerable prestige and influence. Our industry has grown and thrived. It has shown itself to be highly adaptable. It has developed and implemented new methodologies time after time—new methodologies that address ever-evolving social environments and even faster-evolving technological environments. During the latter half of the twentieth century, pollsters were at times scientific celebrities. They were courted by presidents, consulted by industry, respected by the public.
