Abstract
The year 2018 marks the twentieth anniversary of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), born of the unification of the National Association for Music Therapy (NAMT) and the American Association for Music Therapy (AAMT). Two music therapists instrumental in the unification process, Kenneth Aigen (then president of AAMT) and Bryan Hunter (then president of NAMT), reflect on the context and events leading up to the unification talks, discuss the unification process, and reflect on the impact of unification some 20 years later.
