There has been a proliferation of recent interest in plant polyphenols as agents in the treatment of dementia. Many of these organic compounds, whose structure is characterized by multiple phenol rings, are found in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables . With many epidemiologic studies implying an association between diet and incidence of dementia, especially an association between a greater plant source intake and lower incidence of cognitive impairment, increasing scrutiny has focused on polyphenols as a possible disease-modifying factor .
