What is the adherence to and comparative effectiveness of depot and oral antipsychotic treatments after first hospitalisation with schizophrenia?
Population
2588 individuals (16–65 years old, average age 37.8 years) who had a first hospitalisation with a discharge diagnosis of schizophrenia (ICD-10 (International Statistical Classifications of Diseases 10) code F20) during the period 2000–2007 and had not collected an antipsychotic prescription in the 6 months before admission. Eligible individuals were identified using the Finnish National Hospital Discharge Register.

General population, Finland; 2000–2007.
Prognostic factors
Use of any antipsychotic medication, identified using prescription database records. Analyses were adjusted for age at diagnosis, sex, duration of first hospital episode, and current and previous use of anxiolytics, hypnotics and sedatives, antidepressants, drugs used in addictive disorders, analgesics, antiparkinsonian drugs, blood glucose-lowering drugs and lipid-modifying agents.
