Abusive Partner Relationships in Secondary Schools: Identification and Intervention Strategies for School Counsellors

Australian Journal of Guidance and Counselling 21(1): 49-59 Abstract School counsellors occasionally encounter students who are involved in abusive partner relationships that negatively impact their academic, career, and personal/social development. This article will briefly discuss the prevalence and types of abusive student relationships, strategies to assess for both victim and perpetrator, and professional responsibilities. Proactive and reactive responsive guidance and system wide interventions for school counsellors will be discussed.
