Among hundreds of social and behavioral science journals, Health Psychology (HP) remains the most popular journal in our field. With the exception of the American Psychologist, HP has more individual subscriptions than any other psychology journal. In the last few years, HP has emerged as one of the leading behavioral science journals in terms of submissions, selectivity, and citation rates. Our citation index is consistently 3.5 or better, keeping HP at the high end of academic social and behavioral science journals. Of course being editor is a lot of work. During my tenure as editor, HP received and processed over 3,000 new or revised manuscripts. Because most papers have multiple contributors, we worked with nearly 10,000 authors and thousands of reviewers. Figure 1, which summarizes new submissions between 2001 and 2009, shows that the number of manuscripts submitted to HP continues to grow. Between 2006 and 2009, there was a 35% increase in the number of new submissions. By all indicators, HP is thriving. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
