She often introduces herself as a social worker, a mom, and a state legislator for the past eight years. She has two teenagers, aged 14 and 17. During her career, Gilchrest has served as director of health professional outreach for the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut, and policy director for the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence.
