HIV dramatically increases the risk of HPV-related anal cancer, data show

Although anal cancer rates are increasing, especially in older women, people today have more ways to protect themselves. The Food and Drug Administration has approved Merck’s Gardasil HPV vaccine to prevent six kinds of cancer, including anal cancer. The vaccine protects against nine viral strains, including HPV 16, which causes most anal cancers.
