Fact Sheets: How the Trump Shutdown Harms States

As President Donald Trump’s government shutdown continues, an estimated 800,000 federal workers and their families are being forced to live and pay their bills without knowing when their next paycheck will come. Public servants providing vital services—from law enforcement to fighting forest fires to assisting farmers—are being hit, and every state is being affected. The House legislation to reopen government, which was previously supported overwhelmingly in the Senate, would end this crisis immediately if the Senate simply voted on it and the president signed it.

For state-by-state estimates on how the Trump shutdown is harming federal employees and vital services, see the fact sheets below:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • Iowa
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • North Carolina
