The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the nation’s health protection agency. As part of the
CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention, the Division of HIV/AIDS
Prevention (DHAP) promotes health and quality of life by preventing HIV infection and reducing HIV-related
illness and death in the United States. This CDC National HIV Prevention Progress Report describes progress
toward achieving the goals and objectives of the DHAP Strategic Plan for 2011-2015. It uses data from CDC HIV
surveillance systems to report on 21 indicators that support planning, monitoring, and improvement related to
three key priorities of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS):
• Reducing new HIV infections
• Increasing access to care and improving health outcomes for people living with HIV
• Reducing HIV-related health disparities
