If there are no randomised controlled trials, do we always need more research?

One of this months’ Cochrane editorials is written by The Campbell Collaboration’s Karianne Hammerstrøm and Arild Bjørndal, and concerns the lack of RCTs in certain Cochrane reviews. When RCTs are problematic due to ethical or practical reasons, is the implication always that more research is needed?
