Summary
The Prevention Through Risk Identification, Management, and Education (also known as PRIME) Research Clinic implemented a program to proactively identify and treat patients with mental health problems who are at risk of developing full-blown schizophrenia. The program includes a comprehensive evaluation to identify at-risk individuals, multidisciplinary treatment for those identified, and community outreach and education about the early warning signs of schizophrenia. Research has demonstrated the validity of the screening tool used by the clinic, and anecdotal reports suggest that those identified are being more effectively treated, thus reducing the duration and severity of schizophrenia symptoms.
