Indicators of poverty and social exclusion in rural England: 2009

This report presents a range of key indicators of poverty and social exclusion in rural England. This is achieved by presenting English data separately for different types of rural area and comparing these with the equivalent data for urban areas. In total, there are 37 indicators grouped into 7 sections. Each indicator comprises a number of graphs followed by structured text which summarises the key points, provides definitions and data sources, etc. In all cases, official government data sources have been used and, where applicable, government definitions and methodologies have been adopted. In each case, the data used is the latest available. A common level of rural classification when analysing Census data is the local government ward, but there is almost no up-to-date published data at this level, so several other designations have been adopted instead.
