ABSTRACT
This article is aimed at trainee family therapists on courses in the United Kingdom and beyond, and is based on the author’s experiences over many years of providing placements and training in the capacity of live supervision. It contains an introduction to what trainees can expect in terms of personal learning and development and goes on to outline 16 practitioner pointers in clinical practice for the family therapist learning the skills of facilitating sessions in the room. Although it is written with trainees in mind, it can also be useful for family therapists at any stage in their careers.
