The experiment compared ABA renewal with humans after operant performance was eliminated through omission training or extinction. During Phase 1, participants played a videogame in which they acquired an operant response in Context A. Then, all participants experienced a response elimination procedure in Phase 2 (half in Context A and half in Context B). Two groups received extinction, while the omission training was used for the other 2 groups. Finally, all groups were tested in Context A. Higher levels of performance were found only in groups that experienced a context switch between Phase 2 and Test. Moreover, ABA renewal was similar regardless of the response elimination procedure used. The present results support the idea that a similar mechanism underlies the reoccurrence of operant behavior.
