Prescriptions dispensed for the opioid-antidote naloxone doubled from about 270 000 to 556 000 between 2017 and 2018, according to a recent CDC report. Yet only about 1 in 70 patients with a high-dose opioid prescription or other overdose risk factors received a naloxone prescription as recommended by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
