
For those who believe “viewpoint diversity” is a Trojan horse for imposing conservative values, the origins of the concept offer strong evidence. Tomasi acknowledges, “The concept of viewpoint diversity burst on the political scene in 2002 with the publication of David Horowitz’s ‘Academic Bill of Rights.’” According to Tomasi, “Horowitz argued that universities should seek greater pluralism and diversity.” That’s not exactly how I describe one of the first concerted national campaigns against academic freedom in the 21st century.
