Mississippi Senator proposes $20 million infant mortality program

Sen. Kamesha Mumford, D-Jackson, requested $20 million for a program to send social workers for home visits with new parents…. Mumford’s aim, guided by conversations with parents in rural parts of her district and medical professionals at the nearby Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, is to bring licensed social workers to families before and after birth to help with the adjustment to family life.
