Foster care chief warns NI reaching crisis point as she urges public to open up homes to children in need

Melanie Coffey, Southern Health Trust head of service for adoption and foster care, says: “We’re constantly juggling placements to contain the situation. “We’re just about managing with the people (carers) we have. We’re containing a crisis. We need to recruit more carers and, if we don’t we’ll go beyond that into crisis.” Health and Social Care NI (HSCNI) says 400 more carers are urgently needed across Northern Ireland to meet current demand.
