A restructure of the council’s children’s social care department is expected to result in five redundancies but many more social workers are having their roles and teams eliminated and will have to apply for new roles. It comes as the government’s “families first” reforms require councils to carry out children’s social work differently — but social workers say the council will be losing what the reforms say is most important.
