Bill would let Kentucky universities lay off tenured faculty during financial crisis

On Friday, the Senate passed House Bill 490, which would allow public universities to terminate faculty members if a school faces financial trouble, such as budget shortfalls, declining enrollment or academic programs that cost more than they generate…. Currently, state law only allows faculty or presidents to be removed for cause, including incompetency, neglect, refusal to perform their duties, immoral conduct and failing to meet performance and productivity requirements.
