Latest developments in the nicotine pouch market in Scotland

There has been exponential growth in sales of nicotine pouches, small porous tobacco-free sachets placed between the lip and gum to deliver nicotine,1 with Zyn (Philip Morris International) and Velo (British American Tobacco) the global market leaders.2 As the nicotine pouch category evolves, a number of developments have been identified, including high-strength pouches (with some packs indicating almost 100 mg of nicotine per pouch),3 pack themes related to violence, drugs and confectionery,4 and pouches containing capsules that can be burst to change the flavour.5

Nicotine pouches have been sold in the UK since 20196 under general consumer product safety regulations.
